America's Involvement
During the first two years of World War 2 , the United States remained neutral. They did not take any specific side in the war. After the Japanese attacked America on Pearl Harbor, The United States entered the war. America joined the war by declaring war on Great Britain the day after pearl harbor. Everyday life changed after America was in the war by effecting its amount of food, gas, and clothing.During the spring in 1942, a program was created that set limits on the amount of gas, food and clothing people could purchase at the time.
Families were gave stamps that were used to buy their amount of everything from meat, sugar, fat, butter, vegetables and fruit to gas, tires, clothing and fuel oil. The United States Office of War Information gave out posters so Americans were urged to “Do with less–so they’ll have enough”. They wanted to limit the amount of things they buy so everybody could have. Franklin D. Roosevelt said "No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.". He meant that he doesn't care how long it takes, but they nee to win.
Three days later America declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy, allied with Japan and declared war on the United States. America was now forced into a global war. It had allies fighting them, most importantly Great Britain and the Soviet Union. But the job the nation faced in December 1941 was very powerful. America needed to quickly create a military force. At the same time, it had to find a way to provide material aid to its allies in Great Britain and the Soviet Union.
